Paint+ was heavily involved with Avatar 1 and resolving the unique colour and material requirements for set decoration. It involved developing a flat version of metallic paints for the extraordinary military machines.
A source of many of the colours used had to be located and then they needed to be accurately matched. The colours date back to World War 2 and were developed by the US government to provide exact colour specifications to military equipment subcontractors in different parts of the world.
Avatar 2 will do doubt throw up some interesting challenges as director James Cameron has made no secret of the fact that he will be going underwater his next trip to Pandora. With his penchant for uncompromised attention to detail and perfection we will no doubt see underwater motion-capture taken to a new mindboggling standard.
